Bard-'verse
General information: Very much an epic saga, Bard-'verse is the story of the kingdoms of Kearon and Vearin and their struggle to remain free of the clutches of the Trioperali Empire. Over the course of the full story-arc, Bren the sometime-bard, Princess Rania Ilare of Vearin, Count Isaren Cerrinan of Rennoer, and Lady Liarera Neeriar deal with corrupt governments, assassination attempts, and a war with an Empire which has never lost--and two kingdoms which need to be united to have any hope of remaining independent.
The plan, at the moment, is for three books of the main storyline. I may do more later, to further explore Trioperali and figure out what happens post-War, to figure out what other cultures are contained in it, and to play with the desert and islander cultures, as they're somewhat radically different. Some (even most) of the mythology may be the same, but... there are differences.
Book one: The Count of Rennoer, with help from his bardic friend and (unexpectedly) a merchant-born lady of the court attempt to keep Vearin's throne--and its funds--from falling into the corrupt hands of Trioperalian sympathizers among the nobility and merchant princes.
Book two: Isaren goes to the border where the war with the Empire has started as Princess Rania's representative, and Bren tags along to help fight--and strategize, leading Liarera to become ever more suspicious of the bard's identity and motives.
Book three: With the war in full swing, the High Commander of Kearon and Vearin's forces captured and presumed dead, Isaren attempting to hold Vearin together, and repeated attempts on the lives of Rania, King Davinon of Kearon, and Crown Prince Laurenon, the independence of the two kingdoms hangs by a string (specifically, a lute string).
